Round 7 of the Motul ACU British Motocross Championship rolled into Duns in the Scottish Borders for the penultimate round of the season, and while the calendar might have said “round seven,” the racing had the intensity of a finale. With two titles up for grabs before a wheel was even turned, the pressure was on for the championship leaders to see the job through, even as the day’s actual race wins went elsewhere.
RFX MX125cc
In the RFX 125 class, Drew Stock continued his imperious season with another double win, taking Race 1 by almost four seconds from Hayden Statt and Race 2 by over eleven seconds from Joel Winstanley-Dawson. Statt and Winstanley-Dawson traded places for podium spots across the two motos, ultimately tying on 42 points apiece for the round, with Winstanley Dawson awarded second on countback.
MX2
The MX2 class produced the closest racing of the day. Joe Brookes struck first in Race 1, holding off a fast-starting Charlie Heyman by just over five and a half seconds, with Gyan Doensen completing the podium in third and Tommy Searle close behind in fourth.
Race 2 turned the order on its head. Jamie Keith, who’d been sixth in the opener, surged through to win the second moto outright, with Doensen chasing him home in second. Ben Mustoe grabbed third.
When the moto points were tallied, it was Doensen who edged the round overall on 42 points (20-22), just ahead of Brookes on 41 (25-16) and Keith on 40 (15-25) rounding out the podium spots.
Apico MX1
Conrad Mewse made light work of the Duns circuit, taking a clean double in the premier class. He topped Race 1, holding off Ben Watson, with Oriol Oliver completing the podium in third. Race 2 followed a near-identical script, Mewse again first across the line, Watson again chasing home in second, and Oliver again rounding out the top three.
The consistency was enough to hand Mewse the round win comfortably: 50 points from a possible 50, with Watson second on the day (44) and Oliver third (40). Further back, Josh Gilbert impressed with back-to-back top-five finishes to take fourth overall, edging out Tristan Purdon and Adam Sterry in a tightly bunched group.
Titles wrapped up early
While the race wins at Duns were shared around, the bigger story was written in the championship standings. Both Drew Stock in the RFX MX125 class and Charlie Heyman in MX2 arrived in Scotland with enough of a cushion to seal their respective titles before the season finale, meaning both riders now carry the number one plate into 2027 having gotten the job done with a round to spare.
Attention now turns to the season finale, where MX1 remains a genuine fight between Mewse, Watson and Oliver, and the MX2 runner-up battle is still very much alive between Doensen, Brookes and Keith, alongside the fight for the JMR U21 title.
