Jake out in Italy!

19 April 2017

Go Back A number of Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship riders were in action at last Sunday’s MXGP of Trentino where Jake Nicholls (MX1), Ben Watson and Jay Wilson (MX2) were joined by Brad Todd, Mel Pocock, Josiah Natzke, Todd Kellett and Mickey Eccles who were all trying their luck in the opening round of the EMX250 series.

The sickening news to come out of Italy was Nicholls’ hip dislocation in the second moto. The Maxxis MX1 series leader after two rounds, we understand Jake was flown home by air ambulance today (Wednesday).

"The details are a wee bit sketchy and until we get him back into the UK we'll not know the extent of his injury and what needs to be done," said his Hitachi KTM UK team boss Roger Magee. "In situations like this you don't really think about motorbikes and championships, it's all about getting his health right."

Jake’s team-mate Watson had a solid if unspectacular day in MX2, running 17-15 for 17th overall and after five rounds the Maxxis championship leader now sits 17th in the points table. Wilson (iFly JK Yamaha Racing) failed to score.

Top Maxxis performer in EMX250 was Kellett (St Blazey Husqvarna) who failed to score in the opener because of a technical problem but bounced back with an eighth in race two to end the day 14th overall.

“Super-pumped with my first European round in Italy,” said TK on social media. “It was an eye opener but happy to gain the experience.”

Todd (Putoline Planet Husqvarna) qualified second in his group, holeshot the opening race and held seventh for the first 20 minutes until a mistake dropped him to 15th. After getting caught up in first-turn chaos in race two he didn’t make it back into the points and ended the weekend in 25th.

Also caught up in the first-turn in race two was REVO Husqvarna UK’s Mel Pocock who recovered to 17th to add to his 17th in the opening moto for 21st overall. Neither Eccles or Natzke (Hitachi KTM UK) scored.
