Kullas kills it!

16 March 2017

Go Back Hardest working rider award from the opening round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean at Culham has to go to MVR-D Route 77 Husqvarna’s fast Finn Harri Kullas who doubled up in MX1 and MX2 in the sort of conditions that some riders wouldn’t want to go out in at all.

“It started as a joke in the workshop and then I called Gareth Hockey and he said there was a place left,” said team boss Mark Chamberlain. “The ACU said it was possible so we thought we’d throw it out there and give it a go for a bit of fun more than anything.”

Harri’s main focus is MX2 and his second overall on the FC 250 with a 2-8 card was a success in itself but after a first-lap DNF with a front brake fault in the opening MX1 moto he streaked to fourth in the second MX1 race.

“Physically I feel pretty all right but I got arm-pump,” said a surprisingly fresh-faced Harri at the end of the day. “I had the knee injury after the des Nations so I’ve been riding six weeks now. Fitness is pretty good but my arms are a problem. Hopefully it gets better.

“I haven’t had so much time on the bike – just one week in Spain – and the conditions were completely different so I struggled in the morning with the suspension so that was not so good.”

Harri, who got a podium for Heads & All Threads Suzuki at Canada Heights in 2015, was happy to be back on the box.

“I holeshot the first MX2 race and got second so that was really good. In the second race I got pushed wide and then it was a shame that it was quite one-line but I managed to get eighth so second overall and a podium is always good.”
