GP stars take a summer break ahead of Foxhill event

04 July 2010

With the Grand Prix events coming thick and fast in recent weeks, our top riders can now take a well earned rest ahead of the next round of our championship at Foxhill on July 25th. Whilst Britain's FIM recognised domestic championship had its "summer break" after the midway point at Lyng in the middle of June, before resuming six weeks later, the GP regulars still had a lot of work to do, with three GP's, in Germany, Latvia and Sweden in as many weeks.

Whilst some may choose some National races to keep sharp, others will just keep light training ahead of the Foxhill event in an attempt to defeat the dreaded body burn out in a season which stretches from the end of February to October. It is a known fact that riders who peak too early in a season find it difficult to maintain body and mental fitness for the whole year.

No less than seven of our registered riders currently hold top twenty positions in the MX1 or MX2 world series. In the MX1 catagory, the CAS Honda pairing of Evgeny Bobreshev and Gareth Swanepoel are 8th and 12th respectively in the world standings, whilst Josh Coppins (Aprilia), who has confirmed his entry for the Foxhill event, holds 14th. The twenty two year old Russian, Bobreshev is currently riding high, just missing out on a podium in the GP's of Latvia and Sweden and will want his run of form to continue.

In the MX2 class, American hotshot, Zach Osborne (Bike It Cosworth Yamaha) holds 5th in the world, whilst Jake Nicholls (HM Plant Red Bull KTM) is 11th, with MVR-D Suzuki's Latvian rider, Matiss Karro (pictured) in 16th. Osborne's team mate, Mel Pocock, on the second Bike It Cosworth Yamaha now hold 20th after some point scoring rides.

The Buildbase CCM MX1 pairing of Stephen Sword and Tom Church, who have missed recent GP's through virus and injury problems may return for the second half of the season, but will definitely feature in the remaining four rounds of the UK championship, which is their main target for the year.

All of the above riders will feature at the Foxhill event which takes place on Sunday July 25th. The circuit is easily reached from junction 15 of the M4 motorway.
