ACU Championship riders 1-2-3 at Patchquick

01 July 2010

The famous Patchquick Trophy Motocross finished in near darkness last evening and around a 1000 fans witnessed some dramatic racing on a very hard and dusty Whiteway Barton circuit in Devon. At the end of the three 20 minute motos, it was Brad Anderson (PAR Honda) who emerged as a clear winner, taking three hard fought wins. Buildbase CCM's Stephen Sword recorded three seconds, with very little between him and Anderson, whilst Scott Elderfield made a welcome podium return in third.
In the early evening practise session, dust was a major problem, but with constant watering between races it was gradually controlled, but naturally, this made the hard pack circuit extemely slippery. The circuit was even watered ahead of the three main races and this turned out to make the evening all the more exciting for the fans - and the riders.

Anderson controlled the first moto from the second lap, but in moto two both he and Sword were midpack going up the famous Deer Park Hill on the opening lap. Sword charged towards the front, but Anderson's progress was halted by the slippery conditions and he had to play catch up for the remainder of the 20 minutes. By the end he had caught and passed Sword, which took the pressure off for the final moto.

Not so- although he was again mid pack with Sword near the front, Ando made one of the most dramatic comeback's and exciting races ever seen at the circuit. About twelve seconds behind at one stage, the North Easterner gradually chipped away at Swords lead and with three laps to go was right behind him exiled Scotsman and squeezed through. Sword didn't give up though and even edged a wheel in front on the penultimate lap, but after another desperate last lap attempt had to give best to allow Anderson a clean sweep.

All three riders will be in action at the next round of the ACU British Championship at Foxhill on July 25th.
