Work on Silverstone track going ahead

28 June 2010

Having only visited the circuit five days ago for a pre inspection ahead of the official Facility and full Inspection of the circuit, MXGB were pleased to receive images of immediate work being carried out at the circuit so quickly. Realising the problems relating to the track at the inagural event two weeks ago, the owners of the circuit immediately set about rectifying the situation, putting a team of workers on the circuit.

Our picture shows some woodchip which has been brought in as a "test" which will be mixed in on parts of the circuit after stones a debris has been removed. Speaking from Silverstone, their Operations Manager, Laurence Wiltshire, is now satisfied the mix is right and more will be added shortly, well ahead of the big event on August 29th.

After a practise day on Sunday Laurence commented, " We had really good feedback from the Practise Day. Ahead of the Inspection we are going to change the face of a couple of jumps and the profile of two corners. We will power harrow the track again and complete another stone pick ahead of getting more wood chip so that every corner is soft and loamy. If the dry weather continues we have plenty of water left in the mature big lake at Silverstone which will be available for the ACU Maxxis event".

The ACU are known to be very stringent on pre event inspections and Series Manager Brian Higgins added, " Some of the reports from the recent event were disturbing, but when I visited the circuit last week, I was delighted that the management at Silverstone realised the problem and had already set about rectifying it. Working together, I am confident that we can improve the circuit a lot and I am sure that after the full inspection due on 9th July, we will be in a position to give a positive report. We are also aware that race fans want to get close to the action and we intend creating some extra spectator areas trackside, including a large one in the centre of the circuit".

The event is round seven of the championship and will take place at the venue on Sunday August 29th.
