Little Silver secrets revealed!

04 March 2010

Within hours of the conclusion of a very successful event, the Little Silver Club has revealed that they came very close to having to cancel the meeting just 48 hours before it was due to start. ACU Events Ltd - the Series Promoter, chose the venue specifically for a February round as it has been proved in previous events the track itself can take as much rain as British weather can throw at it. The parking fields, including the paddock also has a "gritty" texture to it.

The club works hard in the autumn and winter months to prepare and seal the track and the conditions were perfect, right up until the end of the week when continous rain and a general forecast for stormy weather was announced on Television. When Club Officials arrived at the circuit on Friday morning they were greeted with a stream of water running down the entrance road and a difficult decision had to be taken. In a meeting with the Series Manager, Clerk of the Course and senior officials it was decided to buy a one to one report from the Met office which was done immediately, with the facility of further updates over the following 24 hours. After a lengthy telephone conversation, the Weatherman forecasted that Exminster, the village adjacent to Little Silver, would just miss the forecasted deluge the SW were expecting and a minimal rain fall overnight on Saturday was likely.

The decision to go ahead as planned was taken. A heavy prolonged shower when teams started arriving on Saturday morning made the paddock very wet, but the rest of the weekend was rain free.

MXGB would like to congratulate the club for making such a bold decision and run the event which produced an excellent start to the championship.
