Trading places!

Go Back It’s still early days but the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship MX2 title fight is shaping up to be a classic with Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee team-mates Bas Vaessen and Conrad Mewse trading wins and second places at FatCat on Sunday.

The young Dutchman’s 2-1 gave him the overall verdict on a tie-break but Conrad, the defending champion, is clearly feeling confident after running 1-2 in the deep sand.

“It’s fantastic being back on the podium,” he said. “Not exactly the position I wanted but for this weekend it’ll have to do. It was nice to ride a proper motocross track – real rutted and bumpy – so it turned out to be really good day.

“I’m not completely happy with my riding – we’ve got a lot of work to do – but it’s only the start of the season and it’s a long one. We’ll take our time and build on this round.”

The series’ other two full-time MX2 GP racers – REVO Husqvarna UK’s Alvin Ostlund and Dylan Walsh – completed the top four overall on the day.

“Today has been good,” said Alvin, who was third overall. “I finished third in both motos in my first British championship races and got on the podium so I have to be happy with that. It was very tough and I had to stay focussed – it was not easy to not make mistakes and I almost crashed a few times in the second race.”
