Barr's the home hero!

Go Back Next up in the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean calendar is Desertmartin in Northern Ireland on June 24 and itís fair to say itís one of the tracks that riders look forward to the most.

One man who is definitely relishing the prospect is REVO Husqvarna UKís Martin Barr. Out of all the championship riders the 30-year-old spends more time on the road than just about anyone else so his home round Ė less than an hourís drive from his hometown of Ballyclare Ė really is an event for him to savour.

ďItís always really nice to get back to Desertmartin,Ē he said. ďItís the only time I get to race at home during the year with such a busy schedule. I won there last year and Iím looking to do the same this time around coming off the back of an overall win at Blaxhall.

ďItís not going to be easy as there are so many fast guys out there but Iím hoping with the home crowd behind me Ė last year they were absolutely fantastic Ė I can put on a good performance and get the job done.Ē

After picking up a hand injury at the opening round at Culham, Martinís currently fifth in the MX2 championship chase but heís planning on using his Blaxhall win as a springboard.

ďUnfortunately, after the first round Iím still 40 points behind but itís not over until itís over. Iím doing all the work I can and hopefully we can get a bit of luck on our side and close that gap down.Ē

Riders sometimes suffer with the weight of their fansí expectations when they compete at their home round but thatís not something that concerns Martin Ė heís just looking forward to having a bit of a lie-in!

ďFor me the pressure is only in my tyres! Iíll just get on with the job and treat it like any other round. The only difference is Iíll get to sleep in my own bed the night before.Ē
